1989 CLASSIC YAMAHA XTZ 750 SUPER TENERE TOTALLY ORIGINAL JUST 16400 GENUINE MILES FROM NEW Believe it or not, I've now sold this bike twice (!) and each time the buyers have not turned up at the agreed time to collect! I guess some people just like to waste their time and torture themselves.... I had previously advertised this bike without having started it and with no battery but this was putting potential buyers off. So, I fitted a new battery, put fuel in the tank and, as expected, after 7 years in dry storage, it started immediately. It starts and runs like a dream, settling into a smooth idle at tick-over. (That's the benefit of properly preparing a bike for long term storage.) The bike starts and runs perfectly. All the electrics work and the brakes and tyres are fine. It has only done 79 miles since the last MOT and you can verify this from the last MOT. I could get an MOT for it, but I don't want to insure it to get it to the MOT station and at my age, riding without insurance is not something I like to do. Any inspection is welcomed but please remember this is a 25 year old bike and is not new. SUMMARY *1989, G Reg *1 former keeper *16,400 GENUINE MILES *UK original spec and UK registered new- NOT an Import *IN DRY STORAGE (DRAINED FUEL, TYRES OFF GOUND) THE LAST 7 YEARS *Just 79 miles since last MOT *COMPLETELY ORIGINAL BIKE *I HAVE OWNED IT FOR LAST 18 YEARS *ALWAYS GARAGED *BRAND NEW BATTERY I have dozens more pictures also of all the MOTs etc on a picture sharing website. Send me your email address if you wish to see them and I will sent you the link. If you are not local and want to buy it remotely, I can attempt to put a video of it running on YouTube for you. I can also help you get a shipping quote. I checked for another buyer and it is possible to ship bikes fairly cheaply now. The Super Tenere was one of the most powerful desert racer replicas of its time. It is modelled on the famous Paris-Dakar factory desert racers but these were used mainly for long distance touring. Only good for serious off roading if you know what you're doing! It is a HUGE bike with a twin cylinder liquid cooled 750cc engine. It is very fast, tall and comfortable and in Europe they use these for touring due to their high riding position and extreme comfort. Its twin engine is smooth and much more powerful than its single cylinder XT cousins. Quoted on the Internet "THE ICONIC SUPER TENERE XTZ 750! ONE OF THE ORIGINAL HYPER ADVENTURE TRAIL BIKES 70BHP 120MPH ROCKET SHIP THAT CAN GO ANYWHERE. THEY WON THE PARIS TO DAKAR FOR MANY YEARS IN A ROW HENCE ITS NAME "TENERE" AFTER THE NOTORIOUS DESERT STAGE OF THE RALLY. THEY ARE ONE OF A VERY FEW BIG SUPER ENDURO BIKES THAT ARE ACTUALLY GOOD OFF ROAD SO IF YOU NEED A LONG RANGE "26 LITRES" GREEN LANER MONSTER - THIS IS IT. A REAL MAN'S BIKE. AND HAS MORE POWER AND IS LIGHTER THAN A HONDA AFRICA TWIN AND JUST AS RELIABLE. IN EVERY WAY BULLET PROOF 750CC TWIN 10 VALVE ENGINE THAT REACHES SILLY HIGH MILES AND SAME AS THE TDM 850 AND TRX850 THEY MAKE GREAT LONG DISTANCE TOURERS AS WELL. VERY COMFORTABLE WILL CRUISE AT 80MPH EFFORTLESSLY 2 UP WITH LUGGAGE!" This is a UK spec model registered here from new. Many of these were brought in from Europe but this is not one of them. It has a huge tank for long range. There are not many of these left in original condition and with this low original mileage. Renowned for their comfort and performance in the 80’s this one still has its original paintwork and everything is there, appealing to the collector. FORMER KEEPER Only 1 former keeper The V5C Registration document which is in my name shows it DECLARED NEW AT FIRST REGISTRATION. The 1 previous owner bought it on 1st August 1989 HISTORY I have owned this bike for 18 years since the summer of 1996. I am the second owner from new. I have not been disappointed with the bike and its been reliable all the years I've had it. If had a new chain on it when I bought it, which was only 2000 miles ago. Yes, sad but true, I've only ridden it about 2K miles in the last 18 years! I bought it as a bit of a toy and only used it for the odd Sunday ride. Marriage, two young children and a knee problem means I have not been able to use it and it has been in dry storage for the last 7 years. I was going to keep it till I retired but I doubt that I will ever be able to retire (!) so my pride and joy is now surplus to requirements hence up for sale. I hope it will go to an XTZ enthusiast who will use it more than I have. SERVICE HISTORY Other than one dealer service, I have maintained the bike myself changing the oil and filter yearly when I put it on the road each Spring. When I used to ride it, it was only ever used it in the summer so I always changed the engine oil each spring. MILEAGE I can prove the mileage is genuine as I have the previous MOTs with the mileages recorded as follow: October 1994- 11853 miles March 1996- 13702 miles April 1997- 14193 miles – When I bought it May 1998- 14756 miles May 1999- 14835 miles May 2000- 14951 May 2001- 15184 May 2002- 15419 In dry storage for 2 years June 2004- 15451 June 2002- 15922 In dry storage for 4 years June 2006- 16188 May 2007- 16321 Today- 16400 (just 79 miles ridden since last MOT) Then in dry storage with the tyres off the ground for the last 7 years till today. I have all the old MOTs to prove this. The reason for the low mileage is because I also had a Triumph Bonneville and a classic car and it has always been tough to ride and drive all my toys at the weekends. MECHANICALS The bike has now covered just 16400 miles In the 18 years of my ownership, the bike has never let me down. It has always started and run smoothly without any problems. It is fast and delivers effortless power from its 750cc twin cylinder, twin carb engine. The engine burns no oil. The gearbox changes up and down as it should. The twin front disc brakes and single rear disc brake are powerful and the steering is smooth. The engine is dry sump lubrication with a separate oil tank so it is a short engine for good ground clearance. Having said that there is a strong bash plate under the engine to protect it if you ride off road. It has a single rear shock which works well BODYWORK The paint is nice and shiny as you can see in the pictures. The tank and side panels are the original pearl effect metallic white, red and orange. It is the original paint job. The previous owner must have dropped it off its side stand as the left hand fairing is damaged, the left side of the tank has some scratches and the side panel is scuffed. You can get fairings and side panels on Greatbritainlisted regularly. I never bothered getting it repaired as it doesn't look too bad with the scuffs and was more interested in a low mileage one. Different people have different views on judging bodywork condition so I will leave you to judge this for yourselves. TYRES AND WHEELS The wheels are mat black alloys so won’t rust and the tyres are quality Michelins (not cheap replacements) and have plenty of tread on them. SEAT The seat cover is in good condition and is original with Yamaha on the sides. SILENCER This is the original silencer and not been replaced as many other bikes have with aftermarket one. Brakes Double ventilated discs at the front and single ventilated disc at the back mean awesome stopping power and with the speed this goes, you need it! The brakes are free as the day I put it into storage. I replaced the rear pads a few miles ago. SERVICE STATUS The engine oil is pretty clean, having had an oil and filter change about 80 miles ago. The air filters are clean- just checked them. The battery is brand new. V5C (Red. latest style registration document) I have the latest type of V5C (Red) registration document which is in my name registered at my current address in Sunbury. It shows just 1 former keeper, who acquired it on first registration on the 1st August 1989. Date of first registration: 01 08 1989 The bike is on SORN at the moment KEYS The bike comes with the two original ignition keys. Toolkit- the bike comes with the original Yamaha spanners held in the locked tool cabinet behind the seat So, there you have it- a lovely low mileage classic ready to be enjoyed for the summer. Or if Classic bike shows are your bag, you can take it away, restore it and show it. Either way, I think somebody will have a lot of fun with this bike. It got a lot of attention each time I took it out to Box Hill and is a real conversation piece as they are just so unusual to be seen now. And with interest rates as low as they are, I'll bet it will appreciate in value more than the cash sitting in a savings account. When you think how rare these are with this low mileage and that the modern equivalent XTZ1200 is £12,000, I think £2250 is is exceptional value for money for such a low mileage example. These bikes are now classics and I think it will be easy to sell it in future for more money. PLEASE NOTE- I'VE TURNED DOWN OFFERS OF £1900 SO UNLESS YOU'RE HAPPY TO PAY CLOSER TO ASKING PRICE, PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. I DON'T NEED TO SELL IT, HAVE A NICE WARM AND DRY GARAGE TO STORE IT IN AND AM HAPPY TO KEEP IT AS AN APPRECIATING ASSET FOR YEARS TO COME. Thanks for looking. Please email me for the picture link.
